New York City FC have seen an improvement in their play since Memorial Day Weekend. It's no coincidence that is in correlation with the insertion of Tommy McNamara into the Starting XI.
The 24-year-old midfielder has four goals in the last nine matches (all starts) as the Club has gone 5-3-1 since drawing with Houston on May 30.
McNamara found the back of the net for the second consecutive match in New York City FC's 3-2 loss to Montreal on August 1. He also was vital in the Club's first goal, drawing a penalty that David Villa converted in the 68th minute.
Here is the story of McNamara's day in video, statistics, quotes and more.
By the Numbers
- Scored his fourth goal of the season in the 85th minute
- Drew a penalty in the 68th minute that David Villa converted
- Has two goals and one assist in the last two matches
- Made his ninth consecutive start
"I feel good. After getting this consistent run of games, I feel great."
In the coach's words:
"He was the only player in the first half that was moving and really trying to make something happen when we had the ball. The effort was fantastic."
McNamara has been excellent for a number of weeks now and really took his chance in the NYCFC starting XI. #MLS— Sean Lawlor (@splawlor4) August 1, 2015
