Keys to the Match | Onwards and Upwards

keys Atlanta united

New York City FC kicks off their two-game road campaign beginning in Atlanta, Georgia.

Here are Keys to the Match, presented by Tri-State Ford…

Building Something Special

Dome Torrent has been building a team with a distinct personality in his 13 months in charge and the results have been there for all to see through the summer.

Dome has led the Boys in Blue to a 10-4-8 record this season, with excellent runs through June, July and August and he does not intend for his team to slow down anytime soon.

City travels to Mercedes-Benz Stadium to take on Atlanta United for the first time since the 2018 playoffs, and Dome is on a mission.

Our head honcho has yet to win a point against the Five Stripes. Going into Sunday’s matchup he will be in the hunt to set the record straight.

Turning the Tables

As it stands now NYCFC is currently in third place on the Eastern Conference table, and Atlanta United is in second.

Only a single point separates the two teams, and a win on Sunday could launch City into the running for the top spot.

NYCFC looks to turn the tables and continue their climb. Onwards and upwards, boys!

Mad Respect

Dome said it himself… "My job now is to find the right way to play Atlanta. They are a top, top team. They are the champions and they are in good form, so we must recover well."

Our head coach has a lot of respect for the opposition, and they may have had a slow start to the season but they have shown why they are defending champions through the middle third of the season with Frank De Boer’s side in ruthless form of late.

Their attack is as solid as ever, but we’re always up for a challenge.

New York City never backs down.

Hitting the Ground Running

NYCFC has a quick turnaround from playing Houston on Thursday to traveling to face Atlanta on Sunday.

Leaving them with only two days to train, analyze, and shift their focus to their new opponents, so they will have to hit the ground running.

There’s no time to slow down and we’ll rest when we’ve secured the cup.

But for now, it’s all about taking on the defending champions.

Excitement Guaranteed

NYCFC and Atlanta United have gone head-to-head six times in City’s short history, and the matchups have yet to disappoint.

The intensity and excitement are always through the roof when the two Eastern Conference teams meet.

Captain Alex Ring said it himself, “I think always when Atlanta and NYCFC play, it’s one of the best games in MLS. They have always been entertaining games and we want to win.”

Don’t miss out on the entertainment and a chance to support the Road Blues, as they hunt for yet another three points. Tune in to ESPN on Sunday at 4 pm ET, #ForTheCity!
