We’ve looked at the year in talking points, month by month, but what were the top ten most-read stories here on NYCFC.com in 2016?


Here’s the top ten…


10. Sean Johnson signs


In at no.10, it’s our most recent transaction which saw goalkeeper Sean Johnson comes to us from Chicago Fire via Atlanta United.


The goalkeeper comes to NYCFC after a solid eight seasons between the posts for the Fire and is expected to compete for a starting spot at Yankee Stadium.


9. Frederic Brillant joins


Another acquisition which drew you to the website in your droves was the announcement of the signing of Frederic Brillant in January.


The Frenchman went on to become a fixture in the heart of defense, contributing to our first-ever qualification for MLS Playoffs.


8. NYCFC sign Sean Okoli


The capture of USL MVP Sean Okoli is next on our countdown, proving that you are excited for the arrival of the striker from FC Cincinnati.


Okoli hit a league-high 16 goals for his former team in 2016 and will be hoping to push for a spot at NYCFC next year.


7. New Training Facility


“We’re building a home”, said Sporting Director Claudio Reyna after it was announced that construction would begin on a new training facility in Orangeburg in the summer.

6. Jon Patricof Named NYCFC President


January’s announcement that Jon Patricof, the former President and COO of Tribeca Enterprises, would become NYCFC President in March is in at no.6.


A native New Yorker, Patricof said at the time: “I cannot wait to get started at NYCFC; a great Club that has already had a significant impact on the New York community in its first year.”


5. Preseason Schedule


Another one from January 2016… our release on the preseason schedule for the team drew thousands upon thousands of you to the website.


NYCFC took on Florida Gulf Coast University, Montreal, HB Koge and FC Cincinnati in February.


4. Roster Options


At the end of November, we released our 2017 Roster Options.


In this announcement, we revealed that RJ Allen, Frederic Brillant, Shannon Gomez, Eirik Johansen, Ronald Matarrita, Tommy McNamara, Andre Rawls, Khiry Shelton and Ethan White would all be staying for 2017.


3. MLS Schedule Revealed


An obvious one… into the top three where the release of the 2016 MLS schedule brought you to NYCFC.com in your masses.


2. #ThankYouFrank


In the middle of November, Frank Lampard confirmed that he would be leaving NYCFC at the completion of his contract.


The greatest goalscoring midfielder of his generation, he left NYCFC on the back of a great season where he finished as second top scorer, netting his 300th career goal in the process.
