Here are your nominees for the Etihad Player of the Month for August 2023.
The Norwegian defender arrived in the Five Boroughs this summer and has wasted no time making an impact on proceedings.
His soccer IQ shows itself in defensive actions, while his ability on the ball makes him a major asset during the team’s build-up. That was never more evident than against CF Montréal. Risa produced an inch-perfect curling ball in behind Montréal’s defence for Mounsef Bakrar to latch onto.
The striker finished the chance and Risa had his first assist – which has helped him earn the nomination this month.
The veteran playmaker made an emotional return to NYCFC, and fans knew exactly what they were getting from him.
Technical quality, blended with intelligence, made him the perfect conductor in the final third for NYCFC. His ability to control the game with the ball at his feet makes him one of the most dangerous attackers in MLS.
His experience and ability to mentor teammates makes him a supremely valuable asset to NYCFC, and so it should come as no surprise to see him nominated for this award.
The Algerian forward has taken the number 9 shirt at NYCFC and the responsibility that comes with it.
He secured his first goal for the Club during the 2-0 victory against CF Montréal, but his game has been about more than just goals. The forward is a constant threat in the final third, and his tireless running in behind defenders means they are never able to relax.
His eagerness to hold the ball up and work with teammates has made him a welcome addition to Nick Cushing’s squad, and a worthy nominee for this award.
