Vieira: Mistakes Cost Us

Patrick Vieira vs Atlanta

Patrick Vieira says his team will learn from the 3-1 defeat to Atlanta.

The game hinged on a seven-minute blitz by Atlanta as they went three goals clear with only 21’ played.

Vieira felt his side made errors during that spell that gifted Atlanta the win.

“We made too many mistakes and when you make too many mistakes against a team with as much quality as Atlanta have, you get punished.

“From there it is very difficult to get back into the game, but I was really pleased with the character and the attitude we showed in the second half.

“We came back and we pulled a goal back so attitude-wise, I was satisfied with what I saw after the break.”

The NYCFC head coach also admitted visiting teams have to get used to the noisy, partisan Atlanta supporters who make life difficult for visiting teams.

“The Atlanta fans were fantastic and I think they support their team really well,” he said. “I think the Atlanta players tapped into their energy and it definitely had an impact today.

“We have to move on now. My message to the team after the game was that we keep in our minds how we played in the second half but we have to start the game with better concentration and focus.

“We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves because we have an important game against New England coming up on Wednesday so we will need to analyze this game and try to improve in one or two areas on Wednesday.”
