Staff Picks: Player of the Season (So Far)

Maxi DC Reaction

It’s the international break and so we thought it was the perfect time to take a pause and a look back at the first 15 games of the MLS Season.

Over the last few days we’ve been asking members of NYCFC’s Digital Team for their picks Match, Goal and Moment of 2017 (so far).

We conclude our staff nominations with a look at our early shouts for Player of the Season…

Milo Kowalski: Graphic Designer
Player: Maxi Moralez

Conventional wisdom would lead me to reflexively say David Villa, but Maxi has had an enormous presence in the midfield, dictating tempo and stringing passes through the center of the pitch.

He runs and runs and runs and never goes down and has already helped create some lovely goal-scoring sequences in key moments for the Club already this season.

Mark Booth: Managing Editor
Player: Jack Harrison

Nominated for Rookie of the Year in his first season at NYCFC, Jack spoke of a need to take another giant leap forward to avoid the dreaded Sophomore slump.

He’s done that with interest, already bettering his goal tally from his first campaign and cementing his reputation as one of the league’s very best wingers.

Even on disappointing days, the Englishman has provided an outlet on the right, his brave, tireless work on the flanks and interplay with his fellow forwards now undoubtedly one of our most dangerous weapons.

Carter Daly: Social Media Manager
Player: Alex Ring

A midfielder a class above in Major League Soccer thus far. A 360 degree force of running, tackling, dribbling, and passing. The posts will get out of the way and the goals will come…

Daniel Khudyak: Coordinator, Video
Player: Maxi Moralez

Maxi Moralez (in LL Cool J’s wise words, “The Mighty Mouse”). Aside from playing a contributing role to a majority of our goals, his actions off of the ball have been instrumental to our success so far.

He battles for the ball in all thirds of the field, managing to ruthlessly battle for the ball, accurately distribute it, and at times even finesse it into the opposing net.
