Maxime Chanot | “We Want To Achieve Great Things.”

Chanot CC presser

Maxime Chanot believes New York City have the quality, desire and character to achieve more trophy success.

The Defender is back in contention for Wednesday night’s Campeones Cup visit of Atlas F.C., having missed the weekend’s trip to Charlotte FC through suspension.

As the MLS Cup and Liga MX Champions go head-to-head at Yankee Stadium, the Luxembourg captain says he and the rest of the squad are desperate to taste the glory of silverware once more.

“As players, we have spoken about the Final,” he stated, speaking at a community event celebrating literacy in the Bronx.

“It means a lot to us, it’s not a question: it’s very important and we will be 100% before starting the game.

“When you start winning trophies the way we did last season, the way we won the MLS Cup, you want to win again and again.

“As Nick [Cushing] said, as a Club, we want to achieve great things. The game on Wednesday would be very important to bring another trophy to the Club.”

The Boys in Blue are also hoping to kickstart their MLS campaign, following a challenging run of results, with Saturday's Hudson River Derby edging closer.

Despite registering just one win in their last 10 games, Chanot asserts that while the team are disappointed, they are pulling together, remaining calm and positive, and are fully focused on finishing the season strongly.

“As players, we are not concerned at all regarding the recent bad results. Why? Because we’ve got enough experience,” he added.

“Many of the players have been at this Club for a long time. Last season, we went through the same situation where we didn’t win for seven or eight games and we still won the MLS Cup.

“There is absolutely no crisis – that’s something we have to understand, though we also understand that as players, we can do better on the pitch. Don’t get me wrong, we know that.

“We know we have to do better but we trust the quality we have in this group, the staff we have.

“The game on Wednesday is very important for us. It’s the same situation with the game on Saturday against Red Bulls – this week is crucial for us and we’re going to play both games 100%.

“We have so many players coming back from injury so we have enough quality players to compete for the two games.

“We know we’re going to change this situation very soon.”
