NYCFC Awards | Maxi Moralez Named Fans’ Player of the Year for Second-Successive Year

NYCFC 2019 Awards

New York City Football Club hosted the second-annual NYCFC Awards on Tuesday evening, just 48 hours after the team secured the Eastern Conference First Seed and CONCACAF Champions League qualification.

The First Team squad, City Members and staff gathered at The Cutting Room in Midtown to pay tribute to the Beasts of the East and to reflect on a memorable fifth regular season campaign.

Maxi Moralez took the night’s biggest award home, topping the fan vote and clinching a second-successive Fans’ Player of the Year award after a remarkable third season with New York City’s Football Club.

Moralez is the league’s assist-leader with 20, just the third time in MLS history that a player has accumulated 20+ assists in a single season.

His compatriot Taty Castellanos was another big winner, receiving the Breakthrough Player of the Year award, just edging out Keaton Parks and James Sands.

NYC’s top-scorer Héber won the Goal of the Year vote for his Hudson River Derby winning backheel and Anton Tinnerholm won Assist of the Year presented by Dumbo Moving and Storage for his assist at Red Bull Arena.

Brad Stuver was another player recognized for his contribution off the pitch when he stepped up to claim the Community MVP award, while Founding Member Tony Larsen was recognized with the fan equivalent award.

Maxime Chanot and Alex Ring shared the Most Minutes Played title, while Sean Johnson’s crucial penalty save vs. Toronto FC was voted by fans as the Save of the Year, presented by Degree Deodorant.

Andres Jasson was named Academy Player of the Year after helping the U-19s to retain their DA National title earlier in the year.

YES Network announcer Joe Tolleson hosted the night’s festivities with a little help from some City Members who presented the players with their trophies and in-stadium Troy Press who kept the good vibes flowing.

With more fan awards, including “Most Travelled Fan presented by Mohegan Sun” and “City Member Moment of the Year”, it was a night to remember for New York City’s Football Club.

Look out for photo and video recaps on NYCFC.com and the Club’s social media channels in the coming days.
