It’s that time of year again and seven New York City FC players have been called up for National Team duty.

Alexander Callens, Maxime Chanot, Justin Haak, Sean Johnson, Ronald Matarrita, Tony Rocha, and Abdi Mohamed are the latest to receive the call to represent their respective nations.

Alexander Callens

Alexander Callens reported to the Peruvian National Team earlier this year as the team made a run for the Copa America title. The team made it all the way to the finals but fell to Brazil, 3-1, and were crowned the runners-up.

Callens’ continues his international career with Peru as they take on Ecuador and Brazil in a pair of friendlies.

Maxime Chanot

Maxime Chanot is headed to meet up with the Luxembourg National Team to take on Northern Ireland and Serbia as they fight for UEFA Euro 2020 qualification.

The defender has appeared in three rounds of qualifiers thus far and will continue to represent his nation on Matchdays 5 and 6.

Justin Haak

The Club's third homegrown signing received his first U.S. U-20 callup in the year of his pro debut for NYCFC.

Haak was named DA Player of the Year for the East in 2019 as NYCFC U-19s lifted a second-successive National title.

Justin will be part of Tab Ramos's squad for a pair of friendlies vs. Croatia and UAE in Slovenia next week.

Sean Johnson

Sean Johnson also had a successful summer of soccer as he was summoned to the US Men’s National Team to compete for the Gold Cup.

Johnson’s team were also runner-ups in the tournament as they were bested in the final by arch-rival Mexico.

The ‘keeper made one appearance in net for Gregg Berhalter’s squad, and he has consistently impressed in training, earning him yet another call up.

Johnson will be joining the USMNT as they meet Gold Cup Champions, Mexico, and South American power Uruguay, in upcoming friendlies.

Ronald Matarrita

The Costa Rican National Team has called up Ronald Matarrita once again, after he joined them during the Gold Cup tournament this summer. They also fell to Mexico’s National Team in quarter-final penalty kicks.

Matarrita made five appearances for his national team in 2019, two of which came during the Gold Cup. He will be back with the squad as they face off against Uruguay in a friendly on September 6th.

Tony Rocha

Dual-citizen Tony Rocha celebrates his first international callup for Belize, vying for his debut in a pair of September CONCACAF Nations League matches vs. French Guayana and Grenada.

Rocha has been rewarded with a first callup after featuring in 12 games for NYCFC in 2019, including six starts.

Tony played a big role filling in for the suspended Alex Ring in the 3-1 win vs. Vancouver on Saturday night.

Abdi Mohamed

Currently on loan to Memphis 901 FC in the USL, the standout defender has earned a call-up from the Somalia National Team for a pair of African World Cup Qualifiers vs. Zimbabwe after making 20 appearances and 14 starts so far for Memphis' professional team.
