Match Recap

New York City FC returned to the Bronx to face off against Seattle Sounders FC, as the club looked to extend their club record unbeaten streak.

With Ronald Matarrita’s return from the Costa Rican Men’s National team, the defender found himself back in Dome Torrent’s starting XI for the matchup as the only change from the team which beat Philadelphia last time out.

After a few early near-misses for the Boys in Blue, Matarrita made his presence known on his return, driving in his first shot on goal of the night in the 14’ minute on the volley but Stefan Frei was there to make the save.

On the other side of the field, Brad Stuver was doing his job protecting his net. Nouhou Tolo nearly bent the ball in but Stuver was there to deflect the ball away and maintain his good form in the absence of Sean Johnson, who is still away on Gold Cup duty with the U.S.

Before the halftime whistle blew, Tajouri-Shradi got a shot away from 25 yards out and very nearly curled it in under the crossbar but Frei was there again to tip over.

0-0 was the score at the half-time break but it wouldn't stay that way for long...

Finally, the levy broke on 57', when the team's most in-form player came up big once again for his team.

Maxi Moralez started the move, feeding the ball into the box to second half substitute Jesus Medina, who completed an all-South American one-two with the Argentine and Maxi finished the job with a shot which deflected past Frei to make 1-0.

That was his sixth goal of the season and the ninth goal Maxi has either scored or assisted in his last three games.

In the 76th minute, NYC’s Argentine connection made the difference once again as Moralez crossed the ball to Valentin Castellanos who hammered the ball across goal for Jesus Medina to put a finishing touch on it at the back post. NYCFC doubled their lead over the Sounders, 2-0, and Medina got his first MLS goal of the season and his second in all competitions.

City weren't finished there and Ebenezer Ofori saved the best for last, hammering in an unstoppable strike from 35 yards to tie a bow on another emphatic win.

3-0 was how it stayed until the full-time whistle, stretching NYCFC’s unbeaten streak to 14 matches and securing another big three points.

Man of the Match

Maxi Moralez

Our resident Spidey has been on a roll with six goals and 11 assists in this young season. The Argentine was able to score the first goal of the night for NYCFC, giving his team the lead in the second half.

Outside of the goal, his playmaking ability was on display once again as he was able to play a key role in setting up the second goal of the night.
