NYCFC Select Luis Barraza and Abdi Mohamed in MLS SuperDraft 2019

First Round

New York City FC today selected goalkeeper Luis Barraza (Marquette University) with the 12th overall pick in the First Round of the MLS SuperDraft 2019.

NYCFC acquired the 2019 12th overall pick from LA Galaxy in exchange for the 2019 19th overall pick and $75K of General Allocation Money (GAM).

After being selected, First Round pick Luis Barraza said, "You know it means a lot because my family has always been there for me and my dad is sitting out there, it means a lot to him too. He initially wanted me to play baseball back when I was four, he just accompanied me throughout my journey, my mom as well, my sister, they are my number one fans. And without them I don’t think this journey would be possible at all. I’m really thankful for them."

On working with Sean Johnson, Luis said, "I’m really looking forward to it. He’s one of the best in the league. I just want to get there and absorb as much as I can from him. I’m really excited about this."

Second Round

With the 43rd overall selection in the second round of the 2019 MLS SuperDraft, NYCFC selected defender Abdi Mohamed from the University of Akron.
