In Quotes: NYCFC 1-1 Red Bulls

Alex Ring on Red Bulls

It’s always dramatic when NYCFC and Red Bulls meet for a Hudson River Derby…

Friday night was no different in this respect as the Boys in Blue went toe-to-toe with their neighbors at Red Bull Arena.

Here are all the key soundbites from both locker rooms following the 1-1 draw in Harrison, NJ…

Vieira on Taking a Point…

“I think if we look at the first half and we look at the position that they had, the only time they hit the post was when Alex was out of the field. But I will take the point. And I'm really happy with the point because we played against a really good team who make it really difficult for us.”

Villa on Balance of Play…

“We can’t always dominate. There are many times where we try to play our style but our rival prevents us and times where they will have the ball so it’s important for us when that happens to respect it, work together and know how to suffer so we don’t concede and then find a way to get out.”

Harrison on Ring and Moralez…

“They bring a lot more energy in the midfield we need especially against opponents like the Red Bulls. Alex, you’ve seen him the way he plays, he’s solid, he breaks things up, he’s been great for us. Maxi, going forward he brings us a lot too. With his vision and passing, it’s good for us.”

Wallace on Prospect of Facing Red Bulls Postseason…

“At this point we’re focused on the Supporters” Shield, that’s what’s keeping us on a high note, the goal is there, one of the goals is to get the Supporters’ Shield and then we’ll worry about the opponent and the playoffs. Right now, it’s just not there.”

Ring on the Same Question…

“If it's Red Bulls, if it's Toronto, I don’t really care because at the end of the day we have to play the team that comes in front of us. if want to win, we have to destroy them and that’s how it is. Of course, it would probably be something special in the playoffs. I understand that from your guys’ point of view and the fans, but for me I really don’t care. I came here to win and whoever stands in the way has to go.”

Vieira on Improvement…

“The thing that I love about the team this year is that we are getting a better balance between playing well, trying to make the right decision, and taking risks. I think we've been less naive this year than we were last year.”

Jesse Marsch on Disappointment…

“There's a lot of guys that were really disappointed in the locker room. It's obvious why. It's a big rival, it's a game that we feel like we're the better team for major stretches and then we go capitalize and find a way to get the three points. So that part in an emotional way is very hard to swallow.”

Luis Robles on Prospect of Facing NYCFC Postseason…

“I sure hope we see them down the road in the playoffs and I hope it’s late. It just adds to the excitement. With the rivalry, it continues to grow organically and there’s a lot of excitement which makes these games fun.”

Sacha Kljestan on The Same Question…

“That’s when everything will be on the line and that’s when this Hudson River derby is going to be at the highest limit, under the brightest lights, that’s going to be very exciting for everybody.”
