The XI: The Captain Returns

XI: 8/12

NYCFC welcomes back David Villa in a strong starting XI from Doménec Torrent.
After missing over a month of action and serving the one game MLS suspension due to missing the All-Star Game, DV7 will return to the field in a starting role. Villa is flanked by an on fire Jesus Medina and returning to top-form Ismael Tajouri-Shradi.
In the engine room is the ever-strengthening partnership between MLS All-Star Alex Ring and Eben Ofori. Completing the midfield is Maxi Moralez in an attacking position. Moralez has been key in setting up opportunities for the advanced players, so look for him to apply the pressure on Toronto’s defenders.
Dome has set up the team with the familiar configuration in the back, using Callens and Ibeagha as central defenders, and Anton Tinnerholm and Ronald Matarrita complimenting each other at fullback.
To complete the squad, Torrent has selected Jeff Caldwell, Maxime Chanot, Ben Sweat, Rodney Wallace, Jo Inge Berget, Valentin Castellanos and Tommy McNamara as possible substitutes.
City are seeking all three points in Toronto after disappointingly drawing against Vancouver last time out. With a game in hand on Atlantam whom Boys In Blue need to continue to apply pressure in order to challenge for the Supporters Shield.
NYCFC XI: Stuver, Tinnerholm, Ibeagha, Callens, Matarrita, Ofori, Ring, Moralez, Medina, Tajouri-Shradi, Villa
NYCFC Subs: Caldwell, Chanot, Sweat, Wallace, Berget, Castellanos, McNamara
