Spotlight: Ronald Matarrita Back

Spotlight Matarrita

The Bronx was bouncing for all 90 minutes last night thanks to a stunning show of beautiful football under the bright flashing lights at Yankee Stadium.

It was a full team performance – top-to-bottom, as has become the norm with NYCFC’s hot start to the 2018 campaign (P6-5W-0L-1D).

But what a sight it was to see one of our brightest stars, Ronald Matarrita, beaming again with a full 90 minutes at the left-back position.

Mata wasn’t amongst the four goals last night, but boy was he close. He absolutely uncorked one off a corner kick from the top of the circle that rocked the cross-bar earl in the first-half, and he had another shot from the left-side of the area skimming past the far post come to mind.

Despite not finding the back of the net on this occasion, the Costa Rican’s play was brilliant in his first starting action since 2017. He consistently won second balls high-up in the midfield and combined beautifully with Jesus Medina & Maxi Moralez to create unrelenting pressure on Nick Rimando’s goal.

Just check out the way he kickstarts the final of our four goals…

Here’s to more Mata!
