Vieira: We Must Work Even Harder

New York City FC Head Coach Patrick Vieira has described Saturday afternoon’s clash with the New England Revolution as one of the toughest his team will face in 2018.

The Boys in Blue are three for three for the season but Vieira believes the team will have to work even harder to stay perfect through four.

Vieira told NYCFC.com: “It’s important for us to defend well as a team, we have to concentrate and focus when we don’t have the ball and then when we have it, our collective game, our passing and movement has to be good.

“Every game is going to be a challenge but this one of the biggest of the season and we have to be ready for it.

“We have to work even harder as a team.”

Brad Friedel is the new man in the Revs dugout for this weekend’s game.

Vieira goes back a long way with the former USMNT goalkeeper and he’s been impressed by what he’s seen from Saturday’s hosts at this early stage of the season.

“They’re a really strong team and we know how good they are at home,” Vieira said.

“We have to again be at our best – we’re playing well and we managed to win games but we’re going to face a different test and hopefully we’ll be up for it.

“When you are a new coach with new players it’s really hard to get your ideas across but when you look at the games they’ve played, they played some really good football and created a lot of chances.

“They’re a good team and they have good individuals so we have to concentrate for 95 minutes and not allow them to create chances.”
