Each of Major League Soccer's 23 clubs know who they'll be facing off against in their 2018 home opener, and for New York City FC, that opponent is the LA Galaxy.
A week before that first match at Yankee Stadium, we're heading to Kansas City to play Sporting KC in their home opener.
Are you excited yet? Here are five things to get you in the spirit...
And Away We Go!
NYCFC kicks off the 2018 regular season on the road, heading out to play Sporting KC in a match-up that will feature some unique intrigue...
Khiry Shelton and Saad Abdul Salaam will be facing off in this match, just like they did this past season, but each will be wearing different colors!
In addition to Abdul-Salaam, the season opener could be your first chance to get a glimpse of new signing and Swedish international fullback Anton Tinnerholm.
Also, it's the first game of our season. Get hype.
Bring It On Home
Mark your calendars, because March 11th is our 2018 home opener at Yankee Stadium!
Playing against the LA Galaxy has become somewhat of a summertime tradition for NYCFC over the past three seasons, but this year, Hollywood comes to town right out of the gates.
Last year, we defeated D.C. United 4-0 in our home opener and 2018 promises to be just as action-packed. Who could forget Jonathan Lewis' stunner from back in August?
To New Beginnings!
NYCFC will aim to make it four straight years unbeaten in home openers when they take on LA.
The match-up will mark the first time the Club has faced off against a Western Conference opponent in a home opener, as well.
And of course, it will be a very important step in our quest to reach the playoffs and compete for a first-round bye for the third year in a row.
The Other Guys
The LA Galaxy will provide a tough test for NYCFC early in the season, as the five-time MLS Cup champs look to bounce back from a season in which they finished in last place.
They're a club used to competing for championships, and they'll be eager to come out of the gates firing on all cylinders in their hunt to get back to the playoffs.
The managerial match-up between Patrick Vieira and Sigi Schmid could make for some on-field intrigue, as well. Both coaches are among those with the most impressive resumes in MLS, and Sigi has won his fair share of silverware over the years. In addition to MLS Cup titles in 2002 and 2008, he's guided teams to three Supporters' Shields and five U.S. Open Cup crowns.
