Coaches Take Part in Sport Psychology Workshop

Maria Ruiz Ona Academy

This week, NYCFC Academy and Affiliate coaches took part in a Sport Psychology Workshop led by Maria Ruiz de Oña.

De Oña is a world-leading expert in Elite Professional and Apprenticeship Coach Development with more than 20 years’ experience of working with the Athletic Club de Bilbao first-team and academy.

Around 30 coaches from NYCFC’s six affiliate teams and NYCFC Girls Academy attended the first of two sessions on Monday at World Class FC in Orangeburg, NY where Maria outlined her unique methods designed to support players by enhancing coaches’ personal and professional development. Maria will also work with the Boys Academy coaches and players during preseason.

In addition to her work with Athletic Bilbao, Maria is the President of the International Soccer Psychology Association and is Professor of the Master "Talent Development" organized by the European University in Madrid and Real Madrid Football Club.

The sessions were greatly appreciated by all who attended and were seen as the perfect lead-in to the new Academy season which kicks off at the beginning of September.

NYCFC’s Boys’ Academy has expanded from two age-groups to six for 2017, with teams being fielded at U12, U13, U14, U15, U16 and U19 level for the very first time.

The Girls’ Academy will also start play at U-14, U-15, U-16/17 & U-18/19 level next month.
