Rodney Wallace Goes 90 in Gold Cup Draw

Wallace v canada

NYCFC's Rodney Wallace featured prominently for Costa Rica in their 1-1 draw with Canada in Gold Cup play last night. The result sees the two sides tied on points at the top of Group A through two matches, and puts Costa Rica in good position to qualify for the knockout rounds ahead of their final group stage match against French Guiana on Friday.

Wallace lined up on the left side of midfield in Costa Rica's 4-5-1, contributing to a strong showing for Los Ticos during a match in which they dominated just about every category. The Costa Ricans held over 61% of the game's possession and put ten shots on goal to Canada's one.

One of those shots on goal came from Wallace, forcing Canadian goalkeeper Milan Borjan into one of his nine saves on the night. Without that strong performance from Borjan, the scoreline might have looked much different.

In addition to applying pressure in front of goal, Wallace was tidy in possession, completing 92% of his passes in a match where Costa Rica completed 86% of their 531 passes.

All told, it was a commanding performance from Wallace and Costa Rica, who were unlucky not to see more of their attempts on goal hit the back of the net. They'll certainly be looking to do better in their next match against French Guiana, which you can watch this Friday at 7:30 PM ET on Fox Sports 1.
