U-16s Begin DA Playoffs Thursday

NYCFC academy DA playoffs

The New York City FC Academy’s U-16 squad kicks off their Summer slate of action tomorrow against the Columbus Crew SC Academy Wolves in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy Playoffs.

This tournament, held in Westfield, Indiana, will feature 32 of the best U-15/16 Development Academy squads from around the country. NYCFC’s first hurdle to clear is the group stage, which runs from now until June 26th. From there, teams that qualify will compete in the knockout rounds lasting from July 6th until the championship match on July 14th.

In addition to their match tomorrow, NYCFC will take on FC Dallas on Saturday, June 24th before closing out the group stage against the Baltimore Armour on Monday, June 26th.

Expectations for this young NYCFC group will be high, after the squad took home the first-place trophy – and the Academy’s first-ever silverware – at the 2017 Generation Adidas Cup.

NYCFC beat Mexico’s Tigres in the championship match of that tournament, closing out a successful tournament in which the squad didn’t allow a single goal.

Also representing NYCFC this summer will be the NYCFC Academy U-14s, who will be closing out their Development Academy Summer Showcase Schedule on Friday, June 23rd.

Finally, an NYCFC U-12 squad will take on international powerhouses Barcelona, Benfica, and Villarreal in the La Liga Promises tournament in Newark New Jersey, beginning on June 23rd.
