Yangel Herrera’s Venezuela U20s are through to the semifinals of the FIFA U20 World Cup.
A thrilling 2-1 extratime win over United States booked their place in the last four where they will meet Uruguay.
Following a goalless 90’ which was dominated by Venezuela, who hit the woodwork twice, the Vintotinto didn’t take long to make the breakthrough in the addition 30’.
In the 97th minute Adalberto Pernaranda put Yangel’s side ahead with a clinical, guided strike before Nahuel Ferraresi doubled the advantage in the second period of extratime.
USA struck back and made a late rally courtesy of Jeremy Ebobisse’s goal – the first Venezuela had conceded in the tournament - but Herrera’s South American side held on for a deserved win.
Venezuela now face Uruguay in an all-South American semifinals matchup on Thursday at 4am ET.
