Vieira: Orlando Performance Set Benchmark

Patrick Vieira is seeking a repeat of the perfect performance which gave NYCFC an emphatic 3-0 win over Orlando on Sunday when NYCFC travel to Atlanta this weekend.

The Frenchman is calling for his players to keep that display at the forefronts of their mind when the whistle sounds at the Bobby Dodd Stadium on Sunday evening.

Vieira was delighted with the personality and belief his men showed in Florida last time out and wants exactly the same approach this time around against a talented Atlanta side.

NYCFC’s Head Coach said: “What is important for us is to concentrate on our performance against Orlando.

“I think it’s important for us to keep that game in our mind because the way we started the game, the way we went there and we played with a lot of personality and a lot of belief – that was very good, especially knowing how good Orlando are.

“To go there and play so well is very positive for us and we have to keep that performance in our mind.”

This will be the second and final meeting between these two teams in 2017 following NYCFC’s 3-1 win over the Five Stripes at Yankee Stadium on May 7.

Vieira has been impressed by Atlanta since they joined the league, especially after watching their comprehensive 4-1 victory over Houston Dynamo last weekend.

“We played Atlanta at home and I will say that we played the perfect game,” Vieira reflected.

“We know how good they are and we know how strong they are at home. We saw the game against Houston and saw the amount of chances they created and how many goals they scored. “We saw how good they were up front and we expect a really tough game."

What will it take to make it two wins from two against Atlanta? For Vieira, the recipe is simple: grit, humility and self-belief.

Vieira added: “It will take a lot of humility – it’s good to have our performance against Orlando in our mind.

“We have to go there, roll our sleeves up and work hard. If we go there and if we make mistakes, we will get punished.

“We have to go there, concentrate and work really hard – our team has to perform really well with and without the ball.

“We have to go there and believe in ourselves and to know how good we are.”
