Herrera Captains Venezuela U20s to Win

Yangel Herrera called up

Yangel Herrera’s Venezuela U20s got their World Cup campaign off to the perfect start in South Korea on Friday night.

The NYCFC midfielder wore the captain’s armband as his nation recorded a shock 2-0 win over Germany in their opening group game.

Herrera, who has made five appearances for the boys in blue to date, played all 90 minutes of the victory which was given to them courtesy of goals from Sergio Cordova and Ronaldo Pena after the halftime interval.

The Vinotinto are next in action on Tuesday when they take on Vanuata in Daejon at 4am ET.

In Group B’s other game, Mexico needed a 90th minute winning goal to see off Venezuela’s next opponents in a 3-2 thriller.
