In the News David Villa Contract Extension

In our weekly roundup of NYCFC media headlines, we begin with the media buzzing around David Villa's one-year contract extension.

David Villa announced the new deal which will keep him at the club until the end of the 2018 season on Good Day New York Wednesday morning. Watch the full clip here.

News sites such as the New York Times and the Daily News reported of Villa's extension and singled out his humility and patience.

The Daily News spoke about the press conference Villa held in front of elementary students at PS 49 "fielding with smiles such questions as, 'Do you like soccer?'"

Villa then went on to play soccer with those students outside the school and continued to throw the first pitch at the Yankees game.

ESPN compared his pitch to Schweinsteiger's from Tuesday night adding that Villa's "throw was a little closer to the strike zone." Who do you think did it better?

Aside from Villa, NYCFC has been in the news for their 3-1 win over Atlanta United this weekend.

NYCFC celebrated Family Day in style after David Villa, Rodney Wallace, and Maxi Moralez shared the goals which improved NYCFC to a 5-3-1 record through nine games.

Front Row Soccer gave Rodney Wallace a lot of credit for not giving up after he was denied three times with goal-line clearance.

"The New York City FC forward showed some great persistence by connecting for the go-ahead goal and assisting on the insurance tally of the hosts’ 3-1 victory over Atlanta United at Yankee Stadium Sunday afternoon."

The NY Post also praised Rodney, stating a quote by Patrick Vieira, “His work ethic is fantastic … that’s why he’s in the starting eleven,”

Finally, also worth reading is MLS's View from Couch, which covered DP strategies for both NYCFC and Atlanta United.

In regards to the decision to sign Maxi Moralez, who also scored a goal on Sunday, Ben Couch stated, "it was something of a vote of confidence, in other words -- and Moralez has repaid the confidence in kind, with a goal and four assists through eight games. In short, he's provided exactly the type of link-up play Reyna and Patrick Vieira envisioned."
