NYCFC U16s Face San Jose in GA Cup Semis

NYCFC GA Cup

New York City FC U16s are back in action at the Generation adidas Cup Premier Division finals on Thursday afternoon.

Matt Pilkington’s side will take on San Jose Earthquakes in the semifinals of the competition at 2.15pm ET for the right to take on either Philadelphia Union or Tigres in Saturday’s final.

Winning all three of their games to date, conceding zero goals in the entire group stages, NYCFC booked their place in the last four by overcoming Pumas on Tuesday.

Thirston Briscoe’s goal in the first minute of the second half edged the match and maintained the team’s near-perfect record in Frisco, Texas.

They had to show their resilience too, playing out the final quarter of the game with one fewer player after Velkjo Petkovic was sent-off for two yellow cards following the use of the VAR system.

This victory followed a 2-0 win over Deportivo Saprissa and a penalty shootout triumph that came after a goalless draw with Seattle on the opening day.

Semifinal opponents San Jose Earthquakes qualified for this stage after topping a group containing Chivas de Guadalajara, Columbus Crew SC and Orlando City SC.

They completed group stage play with seven points thanks to 1-0 wins over Chivas and Columbus, as well as a penalty shootout defeat to Orlando.
