Spotlight David Villa DC United

Goal scorers need to score, right? That’s not necessarily the case for David Villa. For the New York City FC captain, it’s more about having chances to score.

After scoring opportunities were few and far between for Villa in the win over the San Jose Earthquakes, El Guaje had two chances and buried one to give NYCFC a late lifeline in a 2-1 loss to D.C. United Saturday at RFK Stadium.

It was Villa’s third goal of the season and 44th for the Club and part of a positive final 30 minutes that nearly included an equalizer.

Key Moment…

Villa scored his seventh goal in seven games against D.C. United six minutes from full time. Tommy McNamara took a lofted ball from Jack Harrison off his chest and then played quickly back to the penalty spot. That’s where Villa pounced and put a first-time shot while falling backward past D.C. United goalkeeper Bill Hamid.

David said…

“The most difficult for me is to not have chances. When I don’t have chances and I [don’t score] of course I’m disappointed. My objective is to score goals and I am happier when I have chances and [don’t score] than have no chances.

“The other game was very difficult for me because I don’t have chances in the whole game. Today I have one Tommy created, the other I shoot out of the box. But no worries, I need to still work hard, to work well because the team needs me not only for the goals but for other things.”
