13 million people in China have an intellectual disability and integrating into mainstream society can sometimes be an uphill struggle.

Zhang Cui, 27, will team up with other young leaders to help deliver unified soccer programs in schools, which will help break down barriers, build friendships and create an inclusive environment for children of all abilities.

“There’s no discrimination on the soccer field. It gives meaningful opportunities for children with and without intellectual disabilities to interact, communicate and learn from each other.”

Unified Schools is a new project to this year’s campaign and in its first year, they work with 1,900 children and young people in Beijing.

This project is delivered in partnership with Special Olympics East Asia.
