Villa Named NYCFC MVP for 2016

Villa MVP

David Villa has been named New York City FC’s Most Valuable Player for 2016.

Retaining the title he won last year, the captain has enjoyed an even better second season in MLS, scoring 23 Regular Season goals to fire his team to the Playoffs for the first time.

El Guaje also completed four assists in 2016, meaning he contributed directly to a goal every 81 minutes he’s been on the field this year.

David paid tribute to his teammates after learning of this latest award.

Villa told NYCFC.com: I’m very happy and pleased to have won this award again as I did last year.

“The most important thing about winning these awards is that my work for the club is adequate and it motivates me to keep working hard and to try and win the award once again next year.

“I would like to thank everyone at the club because without them I wouldn’t have won this title.

“I would like to share this with every person who works for the team and is part of the family at NYCFC.”

Ronald Matarrita was named our Defensive Player for 2016 on Tuesday and David also took the Offensive Player of the Year crown.

Villa is also in the running for the 2016 MLS MVP award which will be announced after the Playoffs.

He’s down to the final three along with Red Bulls pair, Bradley Wright-Phillips and Sacha Kljestan.

Everyone at NYCFC would like to congratulate David on winning this latest award.
