Bay Area Fan Finds New Team in NYCFC

James Fowler

Born and raised in the East Bay in California, Founding City Member James Fowler has had quite the journey to be where he is today. A Cal Berkley graduate, Fowler came to New York City in 1989 in pursuit of a career opportunity.
With a Physical Education degree and experience running track and field at Cal, Fowler first found work as a personal trainer at a small boutique gym.
Shortly after his arrival, the company opened up a facility in the World Financial Center.

“They used to train Tom Cruise, Madonna, and many other notable celebrities” Fowler said.
Following that, Fowler opened up his own physical therapy practice in Union Square. The California native then found something new that he enjoyed, soccer. Fowler liked soccer so much he took up coaching.
“I’ve come back to soccer after playing in High School over 15 years ago. I started coaching a kids program in Brooklyn for 4 to 7-year olds. That got me back into soccer and from there more opportunities came up” said Fowler.
Fowler is currently the head coach of the Notre Dame High School Girl’s team in Manhattan. Last season, Fowler brought the whole team to an NYCFC home game in Yankee Stadium.

Being a Warriors, Giants, and 49ers fan, all teams that are rooted in the Bay Area, NYCFC was the first team in New York that Fowler came to love.
Fowler enjoys coming to home games with his wife and two daughters, and looks forward to what the future holds for NYCFC.
