New York City FC defeated the Montréal Impact 1-0 on Wednesday night. The lone goal for New York City FC came in the 75th minute when a Mikey Lopez shot was deflected and bounced to Patrick Mullins who buried the shot in the back of the net. New York City FC won its third consecutive match and stays unbeaten in preseason.
During the first half, New York City FC controlled the majority of the possession and had several chances to score.
New York City FC Captain David Villa rifled a shot in the third minute, but it was denied by Montréal goalkeeper Eric Kronberg
In the 18th minute, Khiry Shelton had an opportunity to score, but sent the ball above the crossbar.
Shelton had another chance in the 25th minute after a nice move, but shot the ball just wide of the net.
In the 29th minute Andoni Iraola sent a nice cross to Mix Diskerud, but Diskerud knocked the ball just wide.
On a free kick just outside the box, Andrea Pirlo delivered a pass to David Villa who fired a shot off the crossbar in the 31st minute.
Goalkeeper Eirik Johansen made four saves, including a diving stop to keep the game scoreless to close out the first half.
In the 54th minute, Pirlo sent a pass into the box, Villa headed the ball to Diskerud who blasted a shot, but was denied by Kronberg.
Johansen made a diving fingertip save on Montréal’s Anthony Jackson-Hamel to keep the game even in the 57th minute.
Tony Taylor made a couple of nice moves in the box and laid the ball off to Villa who was once again stopped by Kronberg in the 59th minute.
After the goal, Mullins looked to score again, but was denied by Kronberg on a nice jumping save in the 81st minute.
Montreal’s Eric Alexander streaked toward the goal and put the ball in the back of the net, but was called offside in the 93rd minute.
New York City FC will be back on the pitch on Saturday Feb. 20 against HB Koge.
