New York City FC at Philadelphia Union: Spotlight on Tommy McNamara

Tommy McNamara celebrates his goal vs. Philadelphia

Tommy McNamara tallied his first-career start for New York City FC against the Philadelphia Union on June 6 at PPL Park.

The young midfielder made the most of his opportunity by scoring a 25-yard wonder strike in the Club's 2-1 victory.

McNamara started and ended the move that led to the match-tying finish in the 53rd minute. He stripped Vincent Nogueira of possession near midfield and dished the ball to Kwadwo Poku. Poku, also making his first start with New York City FC, held up play and waited for McNamara to run ahead of him. Poku passed the ball to McNamara, who took a few dribbles into open space before firing home his shot from distance past a diving Brian Sylvestre.

McNamara's strike was nominated for MLS Goal of the Week (Week 14) and he was named to the MLS Team of the Week for his play.

Here is a recap of McNamara's day in video, photos, quotes, statistics and more.
