Mix Diskerud Named to United States Men's National Team Squad vs. Mexico

Mix Diskerud vs. Panama

New York City FC’s Mix Diskerud has been called up to the United States Men’s National Team ahead of their friendly against rival Mexico on Wednesday evening.

Kickoff in front of what is expected to be a record-setting crowd of 65,000 is slated for 8:30 p.m. ET from the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. The match can be viewed on Fox Sports 1 and UniMas.

“I’m excited to see the guys again,” Mix said.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who has five goals in 27 caps for his country, has started all five matches so far this season for New York City FC (1-2-2; 5 points), Major League Soccer’s newest organization.

Mix will miss the Club’s match against Eastern Conference foe Philadelphia on Thursday night at Yankee Stadium. The two teams met on Saturday at PPL Park with the Union scoring in the 92nd minute en route to a 2-1 victory.

The United States and Mexico most recently played to a 2-2 draw on April 2, 2014.

“It’s one of the biggest games you can play in as a U.S. national team member,” Mix said. “We play in San Antonio so hopefully we’ll have a home field advantage and a lot of people will come support us. I can’t wait. It’s always been a huge game playing against Mexico.”

Mix made his debut for the U.S. national team on Nov. 17, 2010 against South Africa in Cape Town, providing an assist for Juan Agudelo, who scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory. He helped the team lift the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2013 and was a member of head coach Jurgen Klinsmann’s World Cup squad in 2014 in Brazil, which reached the Round of 16.
