NEW YORK | Soccer is in Jose’s blood. He’s been watching it since he can remember. His grandfather used to tell him stories about hometown club C.D. Águila while Jose was growing up in San Miguel, El Salvador.
So it’s no surprise when the Bronx resident got wind of New York City FC, Major League Soccer’s newest team, he jumped at the chance to be a season ticket holder and active participant in City Voice.
His passion paid off as Jose was selected as the City Voice VIP Package winner. Jose won a David Villa signed replica home jersey, two tickets to Sunday’s Historic Home Opener against the New England Revolution at Yankee Stadium and a captain’s armband.
“I’m a bit shocked; I thought there were many winners,” Jose said. “I wanted a David Villa jersey and now not only do I have one, but it’s signed by David Villa. I’m glad I shared my opinions on City Voice because it got me closer to the Club.”
Jose said his motivation to be a season ticket holder and member of City Voice was just that — to be nearer to the local Club.
“I wanted to add a little grain of me to the Club,” he said. “To be a Founding Member means I can say I was there supporting the Club from day one. I can pass along my season ticket to my son and he can continue the legacy of being a part of the Club.
“With New York City FC, I saw a chance to belong to a club from the foundation up. I wanted to be able to say that I am a Founding Member of a football club and that way, my name is a part of what makes the club up.”
