Josh Saunders nominated for MLS Save of the Week (Week 1)

MLS Save of the Week

New York City FC goalkeeper Josh Saunders was credited with just two saves in the 1-1 draw at Orlando City SC on Sunday, but they both proved vital. The veteran kept a clean sheet for 90 minutes of the match and was only beaten by a deflected Kaka free kick in stoppage time.

Saunders' second save of the match on Kevin Molino's 18-yard effort in the 48th minute was nominated for MLS Save of the Week. Molino acquired possession at the top of the box and fired a low attempt toward the near post, but Saunders was quick to react, diving down to his left and deflecting the ball away.

That effort is accompanied by saves from Nick Rimando (Real Salt Lake), Tyler Deric (Houston), Luis Robles (New York Red Bulls) and Clint Irwin (Colorado) for the Week 1 honors.
