New York City FC are pleased to announce the signing of goalkeeper Akira Fitzgerald, who was acquired out of contract.

Akira comes to New York City after four years with the Carolina RailHawks of the NASL. Prior to his time in Carolina, Akira played his collegiate soccer at Wake Forest in the ACC. He is now the third stopper on the New York City FC roster, joining Josh Saunders and Ryan Meara.

Akira Fitzgerald said:

"I couldn't be more excited to be signed by New York City Football Club. I've worked my whole career for an opportunity like this, and the chance to be a part of this unbelievable project is an absolute honor. I can't thank the staff enough for welcoming me in to the club the way that they have. It's an absolute honor."

New York City FC Head Coach Jason Kreis said:

"Akira is a good, hardworking keeper with great experience in the NASL over the past couple of years. He is a tenacious athlete and very smart with the ball at his feet. I think he will fit into the roster really nicely and push all of our guys in training. We have three strong goalkeepers and great competition for places."
