New York City FC is pleased to announce two additions to the Club’s sporting department.

Rodrigo Marion has been appointed Youth Technical Coordinator and Oscar Pitillas as Physical Training Coach.

Most recently US Soccer Technical Advisor for New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania, Marion has spent his entire life working in soccer.  Prior to his previous post, Marion spent a year as a scout for the New England region and co-founded the Inti Soccer Academy in New Hampshire.

“I’m honored to oversee the development of New York City's youth structure,” he said. “The region is a hotbed for up and coming talent in American soccer, it’s going to be important to produce a playing style and philosophy across the abundance of talent that we’re lucky to have here in New York.

“Young people here are passionate about playing soccer and I’m excited at the prospect of producing local players that could one day represent NYCFC and their great city."

Pitillas also brings with him a wealth of international soccer experience as he joins the Club as the Physical Training Coach, having worked as a Physical Trainer and Readaptation Coach for current La Liga champions Atlético Madrid since 2003.

He worked under many high profile managers including Carlos Bianchi, Javier Aguire, Quique Sánchez Flores and most recently, Diego Simeone.

"It’s great to be able to join New York City with David Villa from Atlético Madrid and have the opportunity to implement a training and fitness regime to make our players as fit and strong as possible.” said Pitillas.

“It’s imperative for an expansion club such as ours to be fully fit heading into the beginning of our inaugural season. Pre-season will be a very important time as we bring our roster together for the first time. Our entire squad will need to be fit, competitive in training and prepared to contribute to the team."

The new appointments will join Head Coach Jason Kreis, Assistant Coach Miles Joseph, and Director of Player Recruitment David Lee.

Speaking of the new hires, Claudio Reyna, Sporting Director of New York City Football Club said, "In Rodrigo and Oscar, we have innovative individuals who will work strategically with Jason, myself and our entire operation to ensure that we become a strong unit. We’re proud to have brought in such expertise and I know we’re building a fantastic team of professionals here.”

“Time has been on our side for us to be selective and approach the right people to join our backroom staff to nurture, develop and encourage the players both in the first team and throughout our youth structure. We’re excited for the season to begin now, but we’re also in this for the long game. The new hires will further enhance the foundations of the Club and will allow the squad to compete positively in MLS.”
