Using an envelope method, the MLS clubs that qualified for the 2014 MLS Cup Playoffs presented by AT&T were given one envelope, while all non-playoff teams, along with 2015 expansion teams New York City FC and Orlando City SC, were awarded two envelopes. The draft picks drawn today are final and cannot be traded between clubs.
The 2014 MLS Dispersal Draft will be conducted via teleconference with representatives from all 20 MLS clubs. Each club will determine a selection in the order above and the draft will conclude when every team forgoes a selection. MLS clubs that acquire a Dispersal Draft player must take them at their full 2015 budget charges and exercise their option. If clubs leave selected players unprotected in advance of the Expansion Draft, which will be held on Dec. 10, they will be made available for selection by New York City FC and Orlando City SC on that date.
Former Chivas USA players that are not taken in the Dispersal Draft will take part in the Re-Entry Draft, if eligible, or will be made available in the Waiver Draft on Dec. 10.
