New York City FC and Downtown United Soccer Club will host the seventh annual Supporters Club Cup this Saturday, August 23rd, at Pier 40 in Manhattan. The summer charity tournament brings together New York City-based supporters clubs of soccer teams from around the world with the goal of raising money for DUSC’s extensive soccer scholarship program and NYCFC’s community program. All proceeds of the event go towards the belief that no child should ever be refused the opportunity to play soccer in New York City.
“It’s really a beautiful thing because it’s grass roots at its heart – bringing rival supporters’ clubs together to step up and play for change in their community – a community which many of them may not have been born or raised in but are now embracing as their home. This event is proof that soccer has a tremendous power to uplift our most undeserved communities,” continued Jeffries. “This event, in its own small way, brings together the soccer community to step up and help support our city’s youth through the beautiful game.”.
