Here are your nominees for the Etihad Player of the Month for June 2022.

Sean Johnson

The Club Captain carried his fine form from 2021 into 2022 and that saw him deservedly nominated for Player of the Month in May.

In June, the Club Captain donned his gloves for three games in MLS, helping the team to two ties and one defeat. His most recent outing – a 4-4 tie against FC Cincinnati – saw Johnson preserve a point for the Boys in Blue during the dying embers with two sensational stops at point blank range.

A key member of the team, Johnson will be confident of maintaining those high standards as the team moves into the next phase of the season.

Héber

The striker with a seemingly permanent smile had a lot to be pleased about towards the end of the month.

Called in as a substitute against Philadelphia Union, that cameo set the Brazilian up for a start three days later against FC Cincinnati. Grasping the opportunity with both hands, Héber bagged a brace during the enthralling 4-4 result, and reminded MLS defenders of his quality.

His mix of smart movement and calm finishing helped the Boys in Blue get back into the game, and will almost certainly leave Interim Head Coach Nick Cushing with a selection headache.

Alex Callens

The consistency with which Alex Callens performs for NYCFC is not lost on anyone connected with the Club.

An intimidating presence on the backline, Callens appears determined to seek any opportunity to improve his game and further refine his play. After finishing last month with a goal in the 1-0 win against Minnesota United, he helped the team secure two difficult points against Colorado and FC Cincinnati.

Forging strong partnerships with Thiago Martins, Maxime Chanot, and even midfielder Alfredo Morales, the consistency with which he performed gave the team confidence to seek out results.
