Vancouver: We Meet Again

Vancouver we meet again

NYCFC will travel to the northernmost tip of Cascadia to take on the Vancouver Whitecaps this Wednesday with the hopes of extending their winning streak into the international break.

Key Stats

  • NYCFC are on a four-match winning streak and a five-match unbeaten run, including a 3-1 victory over Minnesota United on June 29th.
  • In that match, David Villa scored his 11th goal of the season. He's on pace to score more than 20 goals in a season once again.
  • Jack Harrison netted his eighth goal of the campaign, which means he's now doubled his output from 2016 already.
  • NYCFC have extended their goal differential to +13, good for second-best in the league, highlighting this year's key defensive performances.
  • Vancouver sit just below the red line in the Western Conference in seventh place.
  • Their leading scorer, Fredy Montero, has netted just five goals this season, and the Whitecaps have scored just 21 goals overall.
  • Just one point separates Vancouver from a playoff spot in the Western Conference, which is a wide open field halfway through the season.

The Last Time

NYCFC came out on the winning end of a back-and-forth match that finished 3-2 at Yankee Stadium. You might recognize this particular strike from David Villa...

Last Game

Vancouver wound up on the wrong end of a 4-0 match against the Chicago Fire, who dominated the match with 12 shots on goal and over 60% of the game's possession. Golden Boot leader Nemanja Nikolic scored his 15th and 16th goals of the season, and Matt Polster notched two assists.

Recent Form

Vancouver has struggled as of late, winning just two of their last six, and now find themselves just outside the playoff picture in the Western Conference. However, they've played just 15 games while most teams have played 18, and their record sits at 6-6-3.
