New York City FC are pleased to announce that forward Taty Castellanos has been selected as the Club’s MVP for 2021.

The 23-year-old first joined NYCFC on loan from Montevideo Torque in the summer of 2018 before completing a permanent transfer in November of that year.

The 2021 campaign has been a breakout moment in the young forward’s career, during which he netted 19 regular season goals and eight assists to scoop the MLS Golden Boot award.

Speaking after Castellanos secured the Golden Boot earlier this year, Club captain Sean Johnson said: “What a person first and foremost, before we talk about the soccer player. He’s been somebody who's so hungry, who's given everything. I think he’s led team minutes, game in and game out, how many midweek games we've had, through the good times and the bad. He's just been so hungry to score goals and help this team.

“He's been one player that you can never question his work ethic. He is the hardest worker in the group. He’s a great kid, great head on his shoulders and he has such a massive potential. I'm extremely happy for him and it's an accomplishment that he can be proud of.”

Leading the team into the 2021 playoffs he kicked off the team’s run to the final with a goal against Atlanta United at Yankee Stadium, before finding the net again in extra time against New England Revolution in the next round.

He returned to the team for the MLS Cup Final against Portland Timbers at Providence Park, and once again showed his quality by putting his name on the scoresheet with a brilliant header.

That allowed the game to go to penalties where Castellanos opted to take the first kick and set NYCFC on course to claim their first ever MLS Cup trophy.

The Club would like to extend its congratulations and appreciation to Castellanos for his hard work and effort in helping the team enjoy an unforgettable campaign.
