Spotlight: Maxime Chanot vs. Vancouver

Maxime Spotlight Vancouver

NYCFC might have fallen short of breaking the club record for consecutive wins but there were still some positives to take from the 3-2 defeat at BC Place.

Despite missing a number of regular starters, Patrick Vieira’s side were excellent in the first half and had chances of their own to win the game in the dying minutes against Vancouver.

One individual who perhaps did not deserve to be on the losing team was Maxime Chanot, the Luxembourgian international defender who has been a rock at the back for NYCFC throughout 2017.

Alongside Alexander Callens, Maxime has been one of the first names of the teamsheet all season long, thanks to his dominant performances at the back, helping the boys in blue to the upper echelons of the Eastern Conference.

Even though his team would go on to lose, Chanot was decisive again on Wednesday night, playing across three positions over the 90'.

Key Moment

Maxime is matching his defensive partner stride for stride when it comes to MLS goals for NYCFC.

Callens and Chanot were the men who got the goals against Philadelphia in the comeback win at the start of the month and Maxime followed up Alexander’s goal last week with another of his own against Vancouver.

Doubling his tally of NYCFC goals, Chanot reacted quickest when RJ Allen touched Andrea Pirlo’s corner back towards goal, poking in from close range.

That was the equalizer which put his side level and, for a time, looked like it was setting into motion another dramatic come-from-behind victory.

In Maxime’s Words…

“It was the equalizer but in the end, it doesn't mean anything, we lost the game. I'd prefer to not score and win the game, but this is football.”
