Spotlight: Maxi Moralez vs. Houston

MM vs Houston

Maxi Moralez had himself a time on Saturday when NYCFC hosted Houston Dynamo at the Pratt & Whitney Stadium.

Scoring his fifth goal for the club, Maxi was named NYCFC.com Man of the Match for another composed performance across two on-field roles.

Starting out the afternoon on the left wing, Moralez opened the scoring and was as reliable in possession as we’ve come to expect through the first six months of the season, linking up nicely with the midfield and keeping NYC on the front foot.

Following Houston’s equalizer and the half-time whistle, Maxi reverted into a more familiar no.10 role and was a big part of the late cavalry charge for the game-winner.

Although the Boys in Blue couldn’t quite find it, despite a relentless late rally, the Argentine schemed and dictated the play beautifully and was unfortunate not to end the day with all three points.

Key Moment

Only six minutes were on the clock when Maxi did what he’s threatened to do all season: He scored a header.

The diminutive playmaker had to think fast, timing his near-post run to perfection in order to meet Andraz Struna’s accurate service from the right.

That followed a quickly-taken Andrea Pirlo free-kick which caught out the Houston backline and gave NYC the perfect start.

It was a goal that was extremely costly for one NYCFC fan who had said in March that he would get a no.10 shaved into the side of his head if Maxi scored a header this term.
