Spotlight: Jo Inge Berget vs. TFC

The bearded one got two for a big three against the defending champs.

It was a glorious night back in the Bronx, as the Boys in Blue maintained their unbeaten record at Yankee Stadium behind Berget’s second-half brace and earned new boss Domènec Torrent his first win as a head coach in more than 10 years.

And how beautiful it was to see the ball hit the back of the net for Berget – a man who has endured a couple of boo birds due to a perceived lack of production in front of goal – but has been nothing short of vital to NYCFC amassing a club best 31 points through 16 games played.

It was never-ending running and the resulting space creation that was touted upon the big Norwiegan’s arrival from Swedish champions Malmo, and he’s been providing both in spades all season long. But goals are what the people want, and boy did they get them on Sunday evening…

One of the backheel nutmeg variety to finally break the levy, and a more classical first-time finish off the fine set up from Maxi Moralez …

As has been the case – there’s more to Berget then meets the eye. His teammate don’t fear the beard so much as they try to find the beard, knowing a well timed run or pass could unlock the game.

When it comes to goals, celebrations, and wins under Domè, there’s more where that came from for Berget.

Bet on it.
