New York City FC are delighted to announce the acquisition of Goalkeeper Ryan Meara from New York Red Bulls on an intra-league loan. In exchange, New York City FC will send former Sporting Kansas City winger Sal Zizzo to New York Red Bulls on a permanent basis.

Meara, a Yonkers, NY native, has been with the New York Red Bulls since 2012, when he was drafted 31st overall and started the first 18 matches of his career. After emerging as a strong candidate for Rookie of the Year, Meara sustained a hip injury which required surgery.

In addition to his time with the Red Bulls, Meara also played locally at Long Island Rough Riders and Jersey Express from 2009 to 2011. Prior to turning professional, Meara was a standout keeper at Fordham Prep and with Fordham University in The Bronx.

Meara also qualifies for Irish citizenship through his grandparents.

New York City FC Head Coach Jason Kreis said:

"We are delighted to add a goalkeeper of Ryan's quality to our squad. We elected not to take a goalkeeper in the expansion draft, so we're very happy to add one in this form with Ryan."

"He's big, agile, strong, and very good with the ball at his feet. We're excited to keep him close to his hometown and add another New York personality to our roster for the inaugural season."
