New York City Football Club were back in action on Wednesday morning as they took on Club Deportivo Inter Playa del Carmen.

Head Coach Ronny Deila used the game as a chance to look at the Club’s SuperDraft selections as well as further increase the minutes of several first-team players.

The game was a competitive affair and was one of two games the team partook in on Wednesday as they seek to increase sharpness ahead of their first leg CONCACAF Champions League tie next week.

The game started at a quick pace and saw both teams keen to get the ball down and play through the lines to create chances.

Inter would take the lead early on after engineering space down the NYCFC right hand side. A cute pass in behind freed the striker and he fired the ball in off the right hand post.

In response, forward El Mahdi Youssoufi earn two solid looks at goal from the edge of the penalty area, with his first attempt clipping the crossbar.

The Boys in Blue would earn their route back into the game via the penalty spot. A dangerous corner kick was flicked towards goal by Vuk Latinovich, and after clipping the arm of an Inter defender the referee awarded the spot kick.

Thiago Andrade took on the responsibility of the penalty and he calmly side footed it past the goalkeeper to tie the game.

Inter continued to test the NYCFC defence and forced a good stop low down from Barraza towards the end of the first period.

The second half began with an early goal for NYCFC and it once again came from 12 yards out after Andres Jasson was upended following a slaloming run into the penalty area.

Once again Thiago stepped up and this time put it to the left of the goalkeeper. The Brazilian’s brace would be enough to secure a win for NYCFC as they prepare to take on Queretaro FC this afternoon.
