New York City FC’s Sean Johnson and Jonathan Lewis both featured in the first U.S. Men’s National Team game of 2019.

Both NYCFC players were introduced as second half substitutes in Gregg Berhalter’s first friendly as Head Coach which ended in a comfortable 3-0 win for the hosts in Phoenix.

Lewis caught the eye in his 26 minute cameo, assisting the final goal in stoppage-time to cap an exciting international debut for the 21-year old.

Between goals from Chicago Fire’s Djordje Mihailovic (’40) and LAFC’s Walter Zimmerman (’80), NYCFC’s Johnson replaced Zack Steffen between the posts and made a few solid early contributions in an otherwise quiet 16 minute run-out.

Lewis saved the best play of the match for its final seconds, beating his full-back with a neat shift of the ball and a burst of pace before cutting it back for Christian Ramirez to tap home.

Next up for Johnson and Lewis, it’s a final friendly vs. Costa Rica in San Jose on  Saturday before they join up with their NYCFC teammates in Abu Dhabi for preseason 2019.
