Harrison: Anything Can Happen

Harrison v Toronto semifinals

Jack Harrison hasn’t been a professional soccer player for long but he’s still been in the game long enough to know that over the course of 90 minutes nothing is impossible.

New York City FC’s 2-0 defeat to Toronto at BMO Field has certainly left Jack’s team with a mountain to climb in the return at Yankee Stadium but the young winger knows that there’s enough attacking potential in the squad to turn the deficit around.

Jack believes that the home fans could be a determining factor when the teams meet once again in New York on Sunday night.

He reflected: “It’s not the result we wanted – it was a tough game. There were chances for both sides and they took theirs. We’re going to have to be better next weekend.

“Anything can happen in football – it’s important to just try to keep a positive mindset to keep working hard going into training just to prepare as much as we can for the weekend.”

The Englishman praised Toronto’s performance in the first leg tie, admitting that the home side had executed their gameplan perfectly.

The Canadian outfit didn't give NYCFC’s attacking trident many opportunities to inflict damage but Jack feels as though the introductions from the bench showed promise – even if the fight to score an away goal was in vain.

“We knew they had a strong attacking force which we had to try and shut down.

“We did fairly well apart from the two scrappy goals they created but at the same time we need to take our chances going forward.

“We started off with David, Mendoza and I – they did a very good job with their defending tonight. We didn’t create much, especially in the first half but our subs came on in the second half and they made a big difference – we just couldn’t get the goal.”

Harrison also felt as though perhaps Toronto dealt with the brutal nature of Playoffs better than his team on this occasion but he isn’t giving up on winning the war.

Jack added: “It’s that time of the year where people do what it takes to win – if it comes down to a scrappy goal, that’s what happens.

“We’ve just got to focus and concentrate as much as we can and see if we can get the two or three goals to equalize in front of our fans."
