Cityzens Giving Returns on November 13

Cityzens Giving Pre Launch Article

On November 13, New York City Football Club fans will once again have the opportunity to change the lives of young people in communities around the world for a sixth successive year through the Cityzens Giving campaign.

Every vote in Cityzens Giving contributes to a global display of citizenship that makes a significant difference in communities around the world.  Before fan voting opens for the six projects in this year’s campaign, we want to take a look back and share some incredible stories from the last 12 months.

Over 10,000 young people in 20 cities around the world have benefitted from community soccer projects led by inspiring Young Leaders.

30 Young Leaders from New York City took part in Young Leader Training as part of a wider program of Global Young Leader Training which has supported more seen more than 500 Young Leaders from around the world trained in leadership and community football.

One Young Leader from New York, Yasmine Sanchez, was awarded ESPN’s Billie Jean King Award. Winners of the Billie Jean King Award are youth who “use the power of sport as a catalyst for change and make a positive impact on society.”

In June, 5 Young Leaders from New York City visited the City Football Academy in Manchester – home of NYCFC sister Club, Manchester City FC – for the fifth annual Cityzens Giving Young Leaders Summit. Made possible by Etihad Airways, the Summit’s official partner, participants attended on and off the pitch workshops to share knowledge and enhance their community coaching and leadership skills.

For the first time, fans had a unique opportunity to see our Cityzens Giving projects in action and take part in City-wide soccer opportunities including, Soccer Bloc, New York City Soccer Initiative and Saturday Night Lights—all activities that create a life-changing impact on the local community.

In addition, six fans from around the world were selected to visit one of last year’s Cityzens Giving projects – Water Goals in Bangalore. Using the expertise of New York City FC’s water technology partner Xylem, the six fans worked alongside four local Xylem volunteers to build two clean water towers in two government primary schools. Each tower provides long-term, sustainable access to clean water for up to 1,000 people in the school and surrounding community.

Cityzens Giving 2019 launches on Wednesday, November 13, when we will be revealing six new projects and voting will open for fans to decide how funds are split.
