New York City Football Club can today confirm that defender Alexander Callens has been selected as a finalist for MLS Defender of the Year.

The Peruvian international joined NYCFC in 2017 from Numancia and has grown to be an integral part of the Club during his time in Bronx Blue.

He made history with NYCFC in 2021 when converting the winning penalty kick in MLS Cup against Portland Timbers, and has carried that form into 2022.

Not only has his tremendous defensive qualities helped NYCFC qualify for the playoffs for a seventh consecutive season, but also his attacking prowess saw him record a career-best five goals during the regular season.

He was nominated for MLS Defender of the year alongside Philadelphia Union duo Jakob Glesnes and Kai Wagner.

Everyone at the Club would like to congratulate Alex on his nomination and wish him luck in the final.
