Community People - Kwame

Kwame King has been a part of New York City Football Club since 2017 when he joined the team as a Community Coach but he has gone on to fulfill many roles in the City in the Community (CITC) x New York City FC family since.

Now a Youth Leadership Coordinator with CITC and the face of NYCFC’s matchday coverage on Instagram, Kwame is using the power of soccer to promote health, education, and leadership development, as well as playing a key role in helping to create safe community spaces throughout the five boroughs.

Community People - Brandi

Brandi Daniels was part of New York City Football Club since the Club’s 2015 inaugural season. The Long Island native first began working as a Brand Ambassador but then become a Community Relations Specialist with City in the Community (CITC), the charity foundation proudly supported by NYCFC that uses the power of soccer to promote health, education, and leadership development and create safe community spaces throughout the five boroughs.

Community People - Gwen

Gwen has been a member of the YLC since January 2019 after meeting the Club’s Youth Leadership Coordinator (+ gameday Instagram host) Kwame King in a previous gameday position. It’s a role that she credits for a lot of her personal development in the past 18 months. “It helps you know your place in society and what you can do,” she said. “It leads you to your most capable self. I learned so many things and honestly, it’s the best way to figure out who you are as a person and who you are as a young adult.”

Community People - Chelsea

At the 2020 ESPY’s, ESPN announced City in the Community (CITC) Young Leader, Chelsea Quito, as one of only a select few people nationwide to receive the 2020 Billie Jean King Youth Leadership Award for her humanitarian efforts with New York City Football Club (NYCFC).

Chelsea is a first-generation Ecuadorian American residing in the South Bronx, the poorest Congressional District in the United States. Chelsea paved a path forward by joining NYCFC and quickly became a member of the Foundation’s Youth Leadership and Enterprise Program.

Community People - Mr. G

Dumitru Grigorean, or Mr G as he’s fondly known to his students, is a University Prep Charter High School teacher from Romania who moved to New York City in 2007.

A 14-year old who didn’t speak English, adaptation to his new surrounds was tough for Dumitru, but a love of soccer and an infectious energy enabled him to thrive in NYC.
